Biosketch:

Marianne received her Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Chicago in 1954. She joined the Department of Economics in 1956, originally as a Lecturer. She became a Full Professor in 1979, and retired in 1993. Marianne's research focused on women in the labor market. She published papers in a wide variety of books and journals, including the American Economic Review and the Journal of Human Resources. Her textbook entitled The Economics of Women, Men, and Work (with Francine Blau and Anne Winkler) is entering its seventh edition. Marianne Ferber was a long-time participant and supporter of the Program for Women and Gender in Global Perspectives at the University. She was also Director of Women's Studies twice (1980-83, 1991-93).

Dr. Ferber was born on January 30, 1923 in Czechoslovakia and was deceased on May 11, 2013.
