Maurice Henry Robinson came to the University of Illinois in 1902 after completing his doctorate at Yale University, the third instructor to be requested by Dr. Kinley to join the 5-member founding faculty of the school of commerce.  He was brought to Illinois to establish coursework for the school, and was given the title of Professor of Industry and Transportation.

Initially, Professor Robinson taught courses in Railway Management, Insurance, and Corporation Finance.  In 1911, he would publish one of the first textbooks in Business Administration, entitled “Modern Business Organization and Management.”

Professor Robinson would continue his teachings under the title of Professor of Economics from 1921 until his retirement in 1933.  He would go on to teach nearly every course offered in the College of Commerce and Business Administration, and would become a prominent authority in Corporation Finance and Investments, being called on to consult frequently.

One of the pioneers of the College, he would become the first instructor to establish and teach an Accountancy course at Illinois.  During his 31-year tenure, he would earn widespread popularity among his students, and high respect among his peers throughout the university.
