On October 3, MSPE students visited the Chicago Metropolitan Agency for Planning (CMAP) for an engaging and informative field trip. The visit began with a presentation outlining CMAP’s mission and its role in regional planning across the seven-county metropolitan area. Students learned about two major initiatives currently underway: efforts to improve the efficiency and equity of sales and property tax structures, and the development of a comprehensive quality labor index to better assess workforce dynamics. Following the presentation, the group toured the historic Old Post Office Building, where CMAP’s offices are located. The highlight of the tour was the expansive rooftop area, restored to a natural prairie landscape, which offered beautiful views of the city under summer-like October weather.
