The MSPE curriculum consists of four mandatory core courses plus six or more elective courses in different areas of specialization. This may be completed within one to two years. The minimum grade point average to retain eligibility and graduate from the program is 3.0 (out of 4.0).

Students must complete two or more elective courses listed under a particular specialization; at least one of the courses must be at the 500 level.

Notes:

  • Not all courses are offered in every semester and course offerings may vary from time to time.
  • Courses numbered 500-526 and 590 are specially designed for, and restricted to, MSPE students; other courses are university-wide courses.
  • Syllabi from past semesters are provided when available; they are not uniform across instructors.
  • With almost all available textbooks in economics being written either for undergraduate or Ph.D. students, MSPE instructors typically supplement textbooks with their own sets of notes.

Additional Requirements

  • Only two of the six required elective courses can be at the 400 level.
  • If both Ph.D. and master's sections of the same course is taken, only one will be counted towards the degree requirements of the program.
  • The same course cannot be taken at both 400 and 500 level to satisfy the program requirements.
  • All independent study courses must be approved by the director if they are to be counted towards the degree requirements of the program.
