This year the Master of Science: Policy Economics (MSPE) program turns 40. The program has grown exponentially ever since it was established in 1984 under the guidance of Professor Werner Baer, and in the 2023-2024 academic year it achieved an impressive milestone, exceeding 2,000 graduates. The program continues to be ranked among the top 10 terminal economics master’s programs in the nation, surpassing Boston University to claim the sixth spot. Despite its age and success, the MSPE program has no plans to rest on its laurels. In fact, this fall it will add financial economics as a field of specialization, and plans are in the works to offer a new concentration in data science.
