We started the 2023-2024 academic year with an incoming class of 11 students selected from a pool of over 300 applicants. The largest contingent of students was from Korea (three), followed by Brazil, and the United States (two each). Rounding out this cohort were students from Bangladesh, Greece, Iran, and India. In addition, we had four students from the PhD track of our Master of Science: Policy Economics program who joined our second-year cohort.

We were pleased to see many of our graduates finding employment in both academia and industry. Three of our students accepted assistant professor positions at Dartmouth University, University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, and IIT Kanpur, India. In addition, one will be completing a post-doc at Cornell University and three others will be working for Freddie Mac, the American Medical Association, and the Korean Development Institute.

Overall, it was a great year for our PhD program. We have enjoyed getting to know our students and them getting to know one another through many socials and in-person activities.
