- Alumni Steven J. Thayer (B.A. Econ, 1988) will be the Department of Economics 2019 Convocation Ceremony guest speaker. Alumni joining Steven on the stage to greet students will be Gene Grass (B.A. Econ 1973) and Dr. John Stodden (MS Econ 1970, Econ PhD 1972).
- James E. Howell (Econ MA 1951), a noted economist and formerly the longest-serving faculty member of the Graduate School of Business (GSB), died on March 29 at his home in Palo Alto. He was 91.

- Joao Duarte (Econ PhD 2016) had his paper, "Monetary policy, housing rents, and inflation dynamics, published in the Journal of Applied Econometrics, made possible by the Boltz Fellowship.
- Jiaying Gu (Econ PhD 2015), an assistant professor at UTM in the Department of Economics, was awarded the 2018 Polanyi Prize for her statistical approach of measuring unobserved or unmeasured heterogeneous qualities.
- Edward Keating, CFA, joined as a Senior Wealth Advisor. At BMO Private Bank, Keating and Wano worked together managing 120 client relationships. Keating served as Director and Senior Portfolio Manager for 19 years.
