We have an exceptionally talented incoming class of 12 student selected among approximately 400 applicants. Three of these students are from the United States, two from China, and one each from Argentina, Bangladesh, Benin, Egypt, Nepal, and Tanzania. Quite a few of our new students have already received masters' degrees from a diverse set of institutions including the African School of Economics, Paris School of Economics, London School of Economics, University of Oxford, as well as Illinois. At the beginning of the semester, we had a reception at the house of Professor Martin Perry which allowed all the new students to get to know other PhD students and the faculty.

Despite a difficult job market, our students found good positions in academia, government and the private sector. The academic placements included the College of William and Mary, National Taiwan University, and Hunan University. One of our students got a position at the Korean Institute of Public Finance, and private sector jobs included Meta, Capital One, and Charles River Associates.
