Availability

Course availability varies each semester. Students will work with our on-site Pavia Tutor and Pavia Faculty, to ensure proper placement into courses of interest. Several economics courses are available each semester, along with courses in other areas of interest.

Courses not already in the database may be evaluated by following the economics study abroad evaluation process (for all economics-related courses), or the study abroad course evaluation process for all additional courses.

ECT is the Credit Hour Unit used by Pavia (and many European institutions). Pavia ECTs are typically double what students will earn at Illinois. Example: 6 ECT in Pavia is typically 3 Illinois Credit Hours.

Applied Industrial Organization 9 ECON 2-- This course is self-sustained and there are no pre-requisites to attend this course. Basic knowledge of game theory and econometrics may help, but it is not compulsory.

Competition Law 6 ECON 2-- General knowledge about European Union and its institutions (Commission, Parliament, Council, Court of Justice)

Digital Marketing 6 ECON 2-- Basic notions of marketing, e.g.: market research techniques, customer segmentation and strategic positioning, famous four Ps (Product, Price, Promotion and Place), usual contents of a Marketing Plan.

European Constitutional Law 6 ECON 2-- No prerequisite is expressly required. However the knowledge of the basic legal concepts acquired during their Bachelor studies is at least recommended.

Gender Issues in a Global Perspective 6 ECON 2-- Since the course is in English students are required a relatively good fluency in English (at least B1) . Familiarity with the fundamental concepts of Economics and Political Science is also required.

International Business Law 6 ECON 2-- No prerequisite is expressly required. However the knowledge of at least the basic legal concepts acquired during the Bachelor studies is recommended.

Probability And Stochastic Processes 9 ECON 2-- The course requires basic knowledge of Probability typically taught in an introductory course in Probability and Statistics. In particular, we assume the Student knows the following concepts: discrete and continuous random variables, expectation and variance, conditional probability, law of large numbers, central limit theorem.

Economics And Finance Of Multinational Corporations 9 ECON 3-- Students should have basic knowledge of accounting and corporate finance. In any case, recap of topics necessary for the course is made in the beginning sessions.
Economics Of Monetary Integration 6 ECON 3-- basic macroeconomics
Mathematical Methods For Business 6 ECON 3-- Calculus: limits, functions, derivatives, optimization
Linear algebra: vector and matrices, matrix operations
Statistics: common distributions, parameter estimate, confidence intervals, hypotesis test
Quantitative Methods for Applied Business Statistics 6 ECON 3-- Some basic notions and techniques of Statistical Inference will be recalled at the beginning of the course. Nonetheless, students will considerably benefit from some familiarity with problems of point estimation, interval estimation and hypothesis testing as they are commonly illustrated in introductory Statistics courses
Quantitative Policy Analysis For Development 6 ECON 3-- The course has no formal pre-requisites. A familiarity with basic statistical, macroeconomic and microeconomic concepts is very useful
Economics Of Innovation And Industrial Dynamics 6 ECON 4-- Basic knowledge of Economics and Applied Industrial Organization
Applied Quantitative Economics 6 ECON 4-- Good knowledge of macroeconomics and basic knowledge of econometrics are required.
Comparative Political Economy   ECON 4-- 400-level Advanced Economics Course
Competition Policy And Market Regulation 6 ECON 4-- This course requires a good knowledge of Microeconomics at an undergraduate level. In particular students should be familiar with the theory of market structures. Students are expected to know the theory of perfect competition, while the theory of monopoly will be reviewed at the start of the course. Elementary notions of game theory are also a pre-requisite. However some tutorials will be organized in order to fill the gaps in game theory with applications to oligopoly.
Economic Models of Politics 6 ECON 4-- 400-level Advanced Economics Course
Big Data Analysis 6 ECON 4-- Knowledge of basic concepts of Statistics like inference, confidence interval, test of hypothesis, simple regression model.
For the coding part, it is recommended to have some familiarity with Python language, or similar software like R, even through on-line courses (ex. Coursera).
International Economics And Policy 6 ECON 420 Knowledge of the main concepts from microeconomics (consumer behaviour and demand theory; market equilibrium with perfect competition, monopoly and monopolistic competition) and macroeconomics (national accounting, IS-LM model). Knowledge of the basic concepts of statistical inference.

Health Economics 6 ECON 4-- Students will need a firm understanding of microeconomic theory and regression analysis in order to follow the lecture materials in this class.
